Great photos, Liz, both these and the first set. It is a shame that Freeport has reclaimed this land (eminent domain?) and decided to demolish the properties on it...perhaps you should consider doing a series of photos from all homes that are to be demolished in the Bisbee area; I bet most residents would be welcoming of that.
Hi Sonya. The land has been leased to these and other folks for decades. Freeport is now "re-conditioning" the land. A very sad thing for people who have made S. Bisbee their home and invested in their homes and the land for so long. I do have lots more exterior photos that I will be posting. Artist Don Smiley's house is now totally gone. Wish I had captured pictures of him BEFORE any of the deconstruction/demolition. Not a bad idea to ask more residents for permission to document. I've thought of it, just shy about it. Ralph has welcomed me back any time for more photos. He came in to the library earlier this week and asked me how he could see the photos. I told him on the computer and he said he didn't do computers, doesn't even have a dial-up phone. Simple and comfortable life he has lived that is now being disrupted. I showed him the images on the computer at the library and have since decided to print them out and give them to him. He's a kind, gentle soul.
I'm so glad that you captured these images before it's destroyed. They highlight the essence soul and history. What a shame and loss.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim. Thanks for your comment. Good to hear from you. It is a shame and a loss. So sad for the S. Bisbee residents.
