Sunday Drawing Group
Our drawing group met and shared art yesterday. We generally give "assignments" each week and bring what we've done to share. Last week's assignment was torn paper portraits. From that general idea, we make something, sometimes "breaking the rules", or straying one way or another from the assignment. Anyway, here is my "torn paper" portrait made to take to drawing group yesterday. As you can see, no torn paper here; it's all cut out, and painted with watercolor.
Our assignment for this next week is drawing from a picture/photo looking at it upside-down, and using our non-donimant hand...should be interesting!

Numinosity: Meet the Drawing Group and Randomness from Today's Art Endeavors
Okay, I planned to start a "Saturday Morning Post" this morning, but did not get around to posting it! The good part of not getting the morning post done is that I spent the majority of the morning, and afternoon, up until about an hour ago, in my studio...working on 100 portraits for our drawing group that will be meeting at the Grand Saloon tomorrow afternoon. See Kim's post from our last week's meeting:
*Numinosity*: Meet the Drawing Group: "I've never been part of a drawing group but when I heard it was rather casualand was meeting at the Grand Hotel Saloon in Old Bisbee, I deci..."
We truly have fun with this!!!
Here is a link to check out more of Kim's Blog too:

Back to the 100 portraits - on any kind of approx. 4"x5"paper using any technique creating real life portraits, portraits from photos, and from one's imagination. I got to #22 today, short of the BIG GOAL, but along the way I learned some new techniques, had a great time, and got 4 pictures I really like! I will post next week after the group has met and shared.
In the meantime, here's a photo (2 versions) I also worked on this morning. My love of photography was freshened (rekindled?) after spotting the Web site of Amira Fritz I love this photo, and really her whole portfolio! Some beautiful images, very inspiring. So, I felt like I was on a caffeine high and "couldn't get enough art today" - seeing the work of other artists, and creating some myself.
Anyway, this has been, and still is, a great day...More after tomorrow.

Draw Cats in Bed
I've never had much talent for drawing, nor have I ever thought of working on my drawing skills until I ran across this book, "52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun! - Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists", by Carla Sonheim. My friend, Barbara Herman, expressed interest in doing the drawing exercises also. So we met yesterday to share the results of our 1st assignment, Drawing Cats in Bed! The assignment was to get comfy in bed and draw about 30 cats from your imagination, working quickly, say spend about 10 minutes to complete the assignment. Well, Barbara and I had quite a few chuckles yesterday sharing our cat drawings. Nice to be drawing (and learning) just for fun. So here are my cats.
Taking it further: I selected one of these funny cats, scanned it and did some Photoshop work on it. Here are the results:
As Hettie would say, LOL! This week we're doing giraffes. Should be interesting!

Getting There
Mirror Mirror #14 was finished last week and #15 yesterday! I will, I think, have over 20 for Oct. gallery show at Subway. I have 8 more "works in progress" and this week I work only on Thursday, so I have no excuse not to get in lots of good studio time. Yay!
I'm off to meet a friend in a few minutes. We're doing drawing exercises together (really meeting and sharing the outcome of our drawings from the exercises) based on assignments from "52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun - Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists", by Carla Sonheim. More on this tomorrow!
Ciao!
